Castello del Terriccio 2019
Castello del Terriccio bears the name of the estate it comes from. The first vintage was 2000, and from the start it stood beside Lupicaia as the house's second great wine.
A blend whose heart is Syrah, complemented by Petit Verdot.
The second great name of Castello del Terriccio, around 20,000 bottles a year. For lovers of powerful red wines and as a gift with character.
Taste & aroma
The nose offers a wealth of aromas: sour cherry, wild berries, and sweet spices in the foreground. On the palate robust, well structured, and very powerful.

The winery
Castello del Terriccio lies in Castellina Marittima, on the northern edge of the Maremma, not far from Bolgheri: around 1,500 hectares of woods, macchia, and meadows sloping toward the sea, of which 65 hectares are vineyards. On the hills stand the ruins of the medieval castle after which the estate is named. It was Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana, who took it over in 1975, who made it a winery of standing.
In the cellar
The grapes are hand-picked, sorted at the sorting table, and carefully destemmed and pressed. Fermentation takes place in open stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, about 20 days on the skins, with délestage for aroma and balanced tannins. The wine then ages about 22 months in French oak tonneaux of first and second fill before it is blended and bottled.
At the table
With grilled meats and roasts, with braised dishes with mushrooms or game, and with aged cheese. It is also a wine to enjoy at leisure without food. Open it ahead of time or decant it, and serve at 16 to 18 °C (61 to 64 °F).
