Hortense 2022
Hortense bears the name of a woman who defied the conventions of her time: Hortense de la Gándara, born into the Spanish aristocracy, married in Florence to Count Umberto Serristori and later lady-in-waiting to Queen Elena of Italy.
She traveled from Paris to New York, from London to Istanbul, and was friends with scholars, artists, and poets. The Fratini family dedicated its first wine to her.
A wine in honor of Hortense de la Gándara, for lovers of elegant Bolgheri wines and as a gift with a story that is a pleasure to tell.
Taste & aroma
On the nose first dense, dark fruit, clear and enveloping, then Mediterranean herbs rise up that shape its character. On the palate structured and lively, powerful without heaviness, with a fresh, balsamic finish.

The winery
Hortense comes from Tenuta Fratini in Bolgheri, founded in 2016 by the family that had already created Tenuta Argentiera in 1999. The consulting winemaker is Eric Boissenot, who works for four of the five Premiers Crus of Bordeaux, supported in the cellar by Emiliano Falsini. The idea of Boissenot and the Fratini family for this wine: power without weight, the elegance of great Bordeaux combined with the character of Bolgheri, far from the opulent, over-extracted style.
In the cellar
The harvest is by hand. After selection in the vineyard, the grapes are sorted again in the cellar, then the berries ferment with native yeasts in temperature-controlled tanks. Twelve months in barrique complete the aging.
At the table
With robust, richly flavored dishes: marinated game, roast wild boar, braised guinea fowl or duck. Also with roast veal or pork with bay leaf, juniper, rosemary, and sage, and with long-aged pecorino. Open it ahead of time or decant it, and serve at 18 to 20 °C (64 to 68 °F).
