Sassicaia 2022
2022 brought a hot summer to Bolgheri. That Sassicaia nevertheless stayed fresh and balanced is thanks to the coastal microclimate and its hillside vineyards.
The harvest was done by hand, starting in early September. The last grapes came in at the end of September from the Vigna di Castiglioncello, at more than 300 meters above sea level.
A hot vintage that stayed fresh in the glass. For collectors, for special evenings, and as a gift that will be remembered.
Taste & aroma
Deep ruby red. The nose opens with ripe cherry and raspberry, then turns herbal and peppery, with subtle toast and a touch of vanilla in the background. On the palate it has velvety tannins, carried by precise acidity, and lingers long between fruit and spice.

The winery
Sassicaia comes from Tenuta San Guido in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. The estate covers around 2,500 hectares, but only a small part is planted with vines: the plots whose soils, exposure, and microclimate are so distinctive that they carry their own appellation, Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC.
In the cellar
After careful selection, the grapes are gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation was temperature-controlled and finished at the end of October; maceration was fairly moderate at 13 to 18 days. Malolactic fermentation started on its own and ended at the end of November. The wine then aged for about 23 months in wood and moved to stainless steel tanks, where the final selection of the lots was made before blending.
At the table
A wine for big occasions: with grilled beef, bistecca alla fiorentina, braised meats, or wild boar ragù. Open it ahead of time or decant it, and serve at 18 to 20 °C (64 to 68 °F).
